Our Alternative Schools Provide Personalized Education For Your Teen

Our outdoor therapy programs provide an on-campus alternative school that is fully licensed by the appropriate state education authorities and regionally accredited. Teachers in our alternative schools are state certified and trained to meet the needs of troubled teens who have special needs such as gifted, learning disabilities and other academic challenges. Education programs focus on each teen’s individual needs and incorporate the treatment process into instructional process.

While enrolled in one of our alternative schools, your teen can earn educational credits that are transferable to the school to which he or she will return. The ultimate goal is your child’s reintegration into public/private school or an alternative educational program such as vocational training or, as appropriate, a high school diploma.

Highlights of our alternative schools include:

Classroom and Experiential Education
In our alternative schools, classroom learning is complemented by experiential education that is incorporated into daily activities. Experiential education is, as the name suggests, learning by doing and taking advantage of the teachable moment. For example, your child will learn mathematics when measuring poles for building structures, ordering supplies for meals and figuring out how far the group needs to travel each day on a trip. In addition to English skills learned in the classroom, they are also practiced by writing letters home or writing a report about an animal seen on a trip.

Curriculum
Teachers will work with your child to develop strategies that help achieve success and increase math, reading and writing skills. Your child also will expand his or her knowledge of life science, history and citizenship, and will develop behavioral and social skills needed to succeed in school or at work.
