Group Counseling for Troubled Teens
EYA maximizes the therapeutic potential of all program activities for learning and personal growth opportunities. Every experience, discussion, meal and routine will help your teen develop personal responsibility and self-accountability, acquire new skills and experiences, and improve his or her emotional well-being.
- Group counseling: Your teen will spend the majority of time participating in therapeutic group activities, including problem solving sessions and conducting daily evaluations. Our experience shows, and research supports, that group counseling is the most effective way to help troubled teens.
- Individual counseling: While the group process provides the best avenue for most treatment, your teen also may need individual counseling. Individual counseling may be addressed informally by counselors as they work alongside a teen, or by more formal individual counseling if prescribed in his or her individualized treatment plan.
- Family counseling: Your family will receive counseling via multi-family conferences, parent groups and individual family conferences as needed.
- Special programming: Services that target specific problem areas (e.g., grief and loss) may be offered in a planned manner to address your child’s needs.
Building Trust in Small Group
In outdoor therapy, the group process helps your child develop group loyalty and trust in others as the counselors and group members assist each other in problem solving, planning, and evaluating group activities.
The group will help your child:
- Identify and evaluate feelings.
- Establish and achieve goals.
- Develop methods of coping with problems.
- Learn how his or her behavior problems affect others
- Learn how to internalize new attitudes and thought processes for lasting change.
Teen Substance Abuse Services
EYA provides teen substance abuse education to all youth. Your child will learn about the harm caused by drugs to his or her body, mind and spirit, how to refuse drugs and how to find activities that are fun without the use of chemicals.
