Individualized Treatment Plans Maximize Each Child’s Potential

Upon admission, every student with the help of parents provides information on the problems, needs, strengths and goals they would like to see addressed. This information, along with formalized academic, social skills and mental health assessments that we administer, are utilized in designing an individualized master treatment plan for each student. Your child’s treatment plan will include group, individual and family counseling; behavior management; individualized academics; social skills and life skills training; family support; and aftercare and follow-ups. Eckerd Academy’s individualized therapeutic and academic approach is different than most therapeutic youth programs for the power it has to elicit real and profound change.

Group, Individual and Family Counseling

Your child will live, work, go to school and participate in group activities with 10 to 12 youth and two trained counselor/teachers. Your teen will spend the majority of time participating in therapeutic group and academic activities.

Social Skills and Life Skills Training

Your child will learn social skills, communication techniques, problem-solving skills to help them get along with others and maximize their potential by giving them a new perspective of themselves and the world around them. Becoming proficient in the skills necessary to function as an independent member of society enhances your child’s self worth, self esteem, and strengthens his or her sense of community responsibility.

Family Support

Families frequently need both emotional and logistical support as they deal with getting help for troubled teenagers and the stresses associated with this level of care. Changes your child makes while in our care will only be successful if they are supported and sustained by the entire family during treatment and after graduation. Our staff members will ensure your family is:

  • Made a partner in your child’s treatment
  • Supported during the residential treatment of your adolescent
  • Constantly informed about your child’s progress
  • Offered education about effective parenting
  • Given access to family-system interventions when necessary

Academy and Home Visits

You are encouraged to be an active participant by frequently communicating with your child and participating in special family activities, like group conferences and weekends spent on campus. Home visits are equally important in gaining confidence that your child can apply the skills necessary to thrive in the family, school and community environments.

Aftercare and Follow Up

Our innovative, eight-week Aftercare Service helps you provide the best possible setting for continued success, and helps students apply the self-discipline and skills they have learned. Weekly one-on-one and group telephone coaching and consultations will help ease your child’s transition back home and guide the momentum of positive changes. We continue to follow up every three months for up to a year after graduation to gauge the long-term effectiveness of your student’s experience.
