Academics

Focused on Personalized Education to Help Your Troubled Teenager Succeed

As a residential treatment center, Eckerd Academy provides an on-campus, fully-accredited school and state-of-the-art computer lab that are part of our comprehensive educational program. For many of the students we serve, underlying emotional issues negatively affect their academic performance. Our highly dedicated teachers are state-certified and trained in handling the special needs of at-risk youth, like those with behavioral challenges, learning disabilities or those who are gifted. Our low student-to-teacher ratio means increased individualized attention and the ability to tailor the most effective approach to educating each student. Children earn academic credits and all credits are transferable.

Teachers are state-certified and trained

Unique to Eckerd is our E3 (Eckerd Educational Experience) curriculum that meets all national and state Department of Education guidelines and capitalizes on our nearly 50-year history of successfully motivating, educating and encouraging troubled teenagers. Eckerd has deep knowledge of the teaching strategies and techniques that can motivate even the most disengaged students to become lifelong learners. The E3 curriculum combines proven educational interventions for struggling teens with evidence-based practices that help Eckerd teachers develop individualized learning paths for their students.

Classroom learning is complemented by experiential learning, hands-on inquiry, collaborative projects, group simulations, problem-solving practices and applied learning scenarios whenever possible. For example, your child will learn mathematics when measuring poles for building structures or ordering supplies for meals. English skills learned in the classroom are reinforced through writing letters home or reporting on a field trip. Our teachers work with your child to develop strategies that help achieve success and increase math, reading and writing skills, and expand life science, history and citizenship knowledge. All the while, they will be developing behavioral and social skills needed to succeed in school or at work.
