A Positive, Nurturing Wilderness Therapy Program for Boys Struggling in Social, Family and School Environments
Founded in 1968, Eckerd Academy of Brooksville was Florida’s first private wilderness therapy program for troubled teens. In its nearly five decades, Eckerd Academy has helped thousands of boys ages 10 through 17 leave their difficult pasts behind and open the door to brighter futures.
Eckerd Academy has helped thousands of boys.
Common diagnoses of our students are: ADD, ADHD, depression, ODD, bi-polar disorder, substance abuse, impulse control disorder, and general anxiety and social anxiety disorders.
The 800-acre campus offers a fully accredited educational, wilderness therapy program with group and individual counseling, adventure programs and relationship and communication-building skills in a serene outdoor setting. Unlike other residential treatment for youth, students learn to build self-confidence, develop respect for self and others, accept personal responsibility and make good decisions through a positive peer culture.
A low student-teacher ratio is enhanced by a a small school population of only 60 beds. Experiential learning opportunities include hiking and camping, climbing the Alpine tower, navigating ropes challenge courses, swimming, fishing, canoeing, conservation efforts and community involvement.
The Eckerd Academy of Brooksville is located about 45 minutes north of Tampa, FL.
